Synopsis:
" Once Upon A Time At San Quentin: A Decade of Violence" is a captivating film documentary that delves into the dark underbelly of San Quentin prison during the tumultuous 1970s, widely regarded as the most violent decade of the twentieth century. Through a unique blend of uncensored, candid photographs and gripping first-hand accounts, the documentary offers a raw and unfiltered look into the harrowing realities of life within the walls of this infamous penitentiary.
At the heart of the film is John Wedgwood Golden, a former Correctional Officer who grew up on the grounds of San Quentin and joined the ranks in 1972. Golden's narratives, often mind-blowing and occasionally controversial, provide a captivating lens through which to explore the prison's history. With equal parts autobiography, history, and philosophy, his vivid descriptions paint a vivid picture of the era, exposing both the brutality and the resilience that defined San Quentin during this turbulent period.
Supported by his stunning photographs, taken with a Hasselblad CM500 camera smuggled into the prison during his duty, Golden's storytelling takes the viewer on a journey through the hidden corners and corridors of San Quentin. The visuals bring to life the stark realities of prison existence, while the author's words lend a touch of humour and pathos to an otherwise bleak narrative.

It invites viewers to engage with the past, question the present, and envision a more just and compassionate future for those behind bars.
BURNS
The film "Burns" tells the story of Robert Burns, a Scottish poet and songwriter, whose work had a significant impact on the abolitionist movement in America. The film begins with Burns' initiation into the Masonic Lodge in St. David Tarbolton in 1781 when he was 22. Burns was facing financial difficulties due to his lack of success in farming, and he accepted a job offer in Jamaica from Patrick Douglas of Garrahan to work as an assistant overseer of slaves. Burns' egalitarian views are typified by his poem "The Slave's Lament," but in 1786, the abolitionist movement was just beginning to be broadly active.
The film follows Burns' life, his poetry, and his impact on the abolitionist movement in America. Burns' work was wildly popular in America from the moment it was first reproduced by "pirates" in Philadelphia in 1787, and it had a profound effect on the views of generations of Americans. Among the poets' many fans were six of the most influential African-Americans of the 19th century and the man widely regarded as America's greatest President, Abraham Lincoln. Both Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln regularly cited the genius of Burns and his philosophy of egalitarianism and the worth of all men to fuel their political campaigns.
